SFIVET receives the assignment of investigating the choice of profession of FaGe
6/4/2010
At its meeting of 25 May 2010, the EBBK (Eidgenössische Berufsbildungskommission) approved an OdASanté and SFIVET project to investigate on a national level the participation in continuing education and the professional choices of healthcare assistants (FaGe) after the conclusion of their initial training.
The project is part of the catalogue of measures included in the “Training in Nursing Occupations” master plan approved by the federal government, the cantons and OdASanté.
The investigation will supply information and leads that help explain the lack of qualified employees in the public health sector. The study is intended to identify the factors that have an influence on whether FaGe graduates continue to work in the profession they have learned or decide in favour of nursing training at the Professional College (HF) or University of Applied Sciences (FH) level.
For this purpose, a survey will be carried out in the second half of 2010 among all FaGe trainees in Switzerland in the third year of their training (about 2,000 people); the same people will be surveyed again one year after the conclusion of their training. The project will be run by the Research + Development branch of the SFIVET and will begin in July 2010 and end in December 2012.
