The Swiss Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (SFIVET) encourages true gender equality and greater awareness of gender issues in upper-secondary level vocational education and training (VET) and tertiary-level B professional education and training (PET).
This is why SFIVET established the Gender Equality Management (GEM) team. Based on gender mainstreaming ideas, the GEM team pursues the following three objectives:
- Developing the gender competencies of employees
- Mainstreaming gender within SFIVET structures
- Developing the gender competencies of protagonists within the Swiss VET and PET sectors so that gender issues may be properly addressed
As part of a medium-term managerial process, gender perspectives will gradually be anchored in SFIVET structures and culture. By developing their gender competencies, SFIVET employees will be able to adopt gender perspectives in their day-to-day activities. They will also be better equipped to apply gender perspectives in the design of SFIVET products and services. The gender-based approach adopted by SFIVET’s Basic Training Division, its Continuing Training Division, its R&D Division and its Centre for the Development of Occupations should set the stage for similar initiatives and greater awareness elsewhere within the Swiss VET and PET sectors. Gender equality is included in SFIVET’s Q Strategy and will be reviewed at regular intervals.
The GEM team helps VET schools, professional organisations and other VET and PET institutions to implement Art. 3 of the Federal Act of 13 December 2002 on Vocational and Professional Education and Training (SR 412.10). The GEM team works closely with each client to develop individual gender equality concepts and solutions.
